…this week I’m seriously debating creating my own web domain. I’ve got reservations because:
A) I don’t think my publishing record right now needs one, though I hope to publish more books, and more, and then again more in the future.
B) It seems a bit pretentious of me to have my own web space. Or not. I don’t know.
I would simply move my blog to my domain, and carry on from there.
What do people think?
I think you should for the following reasons:
1. I have my own domain and I don’t want to be pretenious.
2. Having your own site is far more fun/more options.
2b. More options will include making it much easier to find you on the web.
3. You don’t have to have extra words/names/companies in your URL.
4. Plus, I will help and you will have access to all my experience.
Reasons you should have your own:
1.
Oops… I meant “Shoulnd’t have your own”. Dumb dumb dumb.
rhettoric: Hmmm. I like your reasoning (funny too).
I’d follow you wherever. And you know how good I am at following…
Well, if you do decide to go for your own domain, please remember some of us still rely on slow dial-up connections. Waiting 20 minutes for a page to load can be off-putting. Keep it simple. Avoid the flash stuff. Elegance and simplicity. It’s not that I’m saying you’re not worth the wait, Tracy, … but…
B–you do follow well, sometimes.
Pete–thanks for the input. I like simple.
Wow, this is certainly not conservative! 🙂
B–Nope. Not like a slim skirt, white blouse and a cardigan is it?
